The Tanzdiele - Come To Leopold!

This is hands-down, my favorite NDW recording ever. I got it off of Mein Walkman Ist Kaputt a year ago. Unfortunately, Mein Walkman Ist Kaputt took down thier archives recently, which sucks. But have no fear, Last Days will pick up the slack. This NEEDS to be heard.

The Tanzdiele have a pretty interesting back story. The band was fronted by a German comedian named Piet Klocke, If you search for Piet Klocke on YouTube you will catch his schtick. I thought about embedding one of his videos here but it's in German, so I can't tell if it is funny or not. On Piet Klocke, Wikipedia says:

Piet Klocke's trademark role is Professor Schmitt-Hindemith in his show "Musikstilarten im auslaufenden Jahrtausend" (Music styles of the ending Millennium). Here, he is accompanied by Saxophonist Simone Sonnenschein, acting as Fräulein Angelika Kleinknecht. Usually, Klocke is dressed up in eccentric ways and uses his scrubby red hair and lean figure to create an image of a helplessly nervous person. Additionally, he speaks in a very addleheaded way and doesn't finish his sentences most of the time. This is especially his trademark when doing radio plays.

The A side of the Tanzdiele 45, Musik Musik Musik is great but the B Side entitled Candy is astounding. The mix of German and English lyrics sung in a croon by Piet, the synths, the wacked out guitar all come together to create a song that is better than the sum of its parts. Its also better than most other NDW in that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Musically it is very catchy, something NDW songs tend to forget about.

Before this 45 was released in 1982, The Tanzdiele also released an LP that contained both of these tracks in 1981. It was called "Folgt Den Führern!". I have never heard it but I would love to.
